REVIEW SUMMARY
An enchanting animated feast for the whole family, Encanto once more proves that Disney is the feel-good king of kid’s films. Yep, there is certainly a lot to like here. For one, the new cultural ground being broken feels wonderfully fresh. It really is a great celebration of Latino culture. And with the movie transporting us to a world of magical richness, the visual splendor is as vibrant as the best of them - if even a bit too busy at times. The film is also a musical delight, with Lin Manuel Miranda’s music hitting all the right notes. Are they familiar tunes? Sure, but the effect is as heartwarming as you want them to be. Where the film falters, however, is with its predictability. Yes, it’s primarily for children, but everything turns out how you expect it to be. It’s played a hair too safe, abandoning a great opportunity to break through the superficiality. But, with a storyline brimming with themes of forgiveness, love, and acceptance, Encanto will have you appreciate those in your life who help hold you up. Get ready to call your family with plenty of “thank yous” when all is said and done!
