REVIEW SUMMARY

Mimi Cave’s Fresh is a highly enjoyable feast of thrills and laughs. It’s pretty much Hostile meets Tinder! It’s also a movie that is best left open to discovery. Meaning – avoid spoilers at all costs. The genre twists are fun and quite captivating, while Cave’s stylization also makes for an interesting viewing experience (as does the soundtrack for that matter). Does it push the envelope or go for shock visuals? Nope. But it doesn’t need to. When the dots are connected and motivations are realized, the shocks come naturally. Ok, so there is some semblance of “body horror” thrown in, but I wouldn’t go so far to call it gruesome in any way. I guess it depends on your, ahem, tastes. Helping things along, however, is a cast of capable actors - notably Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones. Stan especially impresses with some sly (not to mention twisted) acts throughout. Without going into spoiler territory, just know that he is great at covering all of his character’s bases. So, while Fresh might be a little too straightforward to become some sort of industry game-changer, it does provide plenty of enthralling delights to chew on. And for that, I say bon appétit.
