SYNOPSIS
Had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018, where it won the People's Choice Award.
Dr. Don Shirley is a world-class African-American pianist who's about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. In need of a driver and protection, Shirley recruits Tony Lip, a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx. Despite their differences, the two men soon develop an unexpected bond.
REVIEW SUMMARY
Green Book is a rare ride-along / buddy period piece that’s well worth the trip! Simply put, if you like movies with pitch perfect performances, a heartfelt story with meaningful messages and top-notch production elements, then you’ll LOVE what this film delivers. Ali and Mortensen as our 2 main characters are nothing but pure joy to watch. In fact, you'll wish their ride-along adventure didn't have to end (and at almost 2 ½ hours, that’s saying something). However, there are times where the historical racial subject matter can feel a bit ‘watered down’ compared to other films depicting the same turbulent times of the 60’s. But trust me, Green Book is a pleasure to watch – a movie you are truly better for seeing.
