Hotel Mumbai is a merciless re-telling of a true to life mass murder. The film pulls no punches and lets the audience quite literally see the bodies hit the floor (let's just say this may not be for the easily flinch-able). This is intense filmmaking from a first time director, and Maras deserves credit for being unrelenting in his on-screen approach to this true life horror show. However, while the pacing is taut, the problem is that it sometimes slips into “Hollywood thriller” territory, and in turn can feel exploitive. But in the end, while Hotel Mumbai delivers some uncomfortable viewing, what you do see will stick with you long after it's over.
