REVIEW SUMMARY
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s reboot/sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer hooks you with nostalgia and the fresh cast, but loses its grip with a ludicrously lame finale. And it’s a shame, because the film starts strong: there’s genuine entertainment value, clever subversions, and fun nods (and cameos) tied to the original summer slasher. That is to say that they do a great job of reeling you in at the start. And, for their part, the new ensemble delivers enough charm to keep you invested – rooting for them at every turn. Plus, the genre kills pack some solid slasher-style punch. But once the mystery begins to unravel, things nosedive into a mess of plot holes and absurd twists. Even the long-awaited returns of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt feel oddly flat and forced. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to see them here, but they should have been given stronger material to work with. In fact, with a tighter, more coherent story, this could’ve been a worthy revival. Unfortunately, 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer squanders its potential and serves as a reminder that not all reboots are worth remembering.
