SYNOPSIS
Best friends Mia and Mel run their own cosmetics company -- a business they built from the ground up. But they're also in over their heads financially, and the prospect of a buyout offer from an industry titan proves too tempting to pass up. The beauty business is now about to get ugly as the proposal puts Mia and Mel's lifelong friendship to the ultimate test.
REVIEW SUMMARY
Given the pedigreed cast involved, you’d think Like A Boss would be a laugh riot. Unfortunately, this R-rated “business comedy” is in need of some major restructuring. Is it that hard to give Tiffany Haddish a worthy comedy-vehicle to show off her glorious talents? Apparently so. I mean, everyone does put their best foot forward (even a cartoon-ishly game Salma Hayek), but it’s the terribly unfunny material they are working with that sinks their attempts at every turn. The raunch and shock humour isn’t effective either, as it’s all played to the lowest common denominator (this far from Bridemaids folks). To be fair, Haddish and Byrne have nice chemistry together, giving way to some sweet moments as sisters. If only the script dialled down the dim-witted shallowness and let the stars do their own thing.
