REVIEW SUMMARY
Spirit Untamed trots out a pleasant, albeit cliched, family-fun adventure. In fact, the biggest thing the film has going for it, is its spirit – pun intended. It really is an uplifting and heart-warming journey between girl and horse. It’s just too bad that it’s been done so – many – times – before. Yep, this is yet another tale of a “headstrong city girl spending the Summer in the country, only to tame a dangerous animal.” Of course, there’s some touching family elements added to the mix, all of which are no doubt enhanced by the delightful voice performances (Jake Gyllenhaal should probably do more of this type of thing). And, much like the previous big screen Spirit outing, the animation is an enchanting wonder to behold. The vibrant slickness of it all makes for some enjoyable eye candy, as does the movie’s rather moving soundtrack. It’s just a shame then, that the plot didn’t go the extra mile as well, as this horse-trotted excursion is one you’ll be sworn you’ve taken before!
