REVIEW SUMMARY
The First Omen is one Hell of a hypnotic horror show! Yep, director Arkasha Stevenson’s prequel to Richard Donner's 1976 classic will keep you on the edge the whole the way through - and likely on the drive home. And while there are some creeptastic images that will surely be burned into your brain, it's the impeccable performances that elevate things greatly. You see, there's a refreshing authenticity on screen that makes the high concept (and often familiar) narrative all the more effective. You'll care about these characters, and in turn, care about their journey through the Hellscape they have been thrust into. Also helping the unnerving experience is the fact that the film plays out with a ticking clock of paranoia. There's a weird whispery background noise that never lets up – nor do the flashes of demonic imagery (and spiders for some reason). And, by the third act, things ramp up to a perfectly terrifying crescendo. It not only leads right into the story of "Damian" that we're familiar with but sets up so many other tantalizing scenarios. And frankly, I’m all in with whatever they decide to do next. Bring on the fiendish horror!
