REVIEW SUMMARY
Just when you thought they couldn’t possibly do more with the Purge’s “all crime is legal for one night” concept, they churn out yet another captivating take on the twisted premise! With a microscope firmly held to society, the film ultimately becomes an extreme cautionary tale for toxic divisions - especially in respects to race. It’s frankly kinda scary that the insanity on display doesn’t feel too far off from reality at this point. There’s also no denying the interesting things this all has to say about the modern day American dream – or in this case, American nightmare. Ok, so it’s still all very surface level stuff, but it’s just so darn compelling! If you are just looking for bloody violence though, well, there’s plenty of that too. The “kills” aren’t anything too inventive mind you (this isn’t SAW), nor are any of the trademark Purge outfits particularly inspired (ok, maybe that one guy with the smiling bullet mask…). Surely the movie has enough stab wounds and bullet casings to keep slasher fans happy, though. So, all in all, The Forever Purge is a surprisingly worthy sequel, one that may or may not have convinced me that another instalment wouldn’t actually be such a bad thing!
