SYNOPSIS

Is based on the novel of the same name by David Lagercrantz. It's also a soft-reboot to David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie in 2011.

Fired from the National Security Agency, Frans Balder recruits hacker Lisbeth Salander to steal FireWall, a computer program that can access codes for nuclear weapons worldwide. The download soon draws attention from an NSA agent who traces the activity to Stockholm. Further problems arise when Russian thugs take Lisbeth's laptop and kidnap a math whiz who can make FireWall work.

REVIEW SUMMARY

It's as if The Girl In The Spider's Web got stuck in a web of mediocrity. Don’t get me wrong, this movie is perfectly fine. The performances? Fine. The directing? Fine. The plot? Ok, that one is a little rough around the edges. The point is, this is a completely watchable film - but in this case, "serviceable" borders on "bland." And standard is probably not the best approach for such a unique and enigmatic character like Lisbeth Salander. Not helping matters is the fact that the impending twists and discoveries are all fairly predictable by the end. I will also say there is wayyyyy too much computer hacking for one movie. Seriously, the yearly cinematic computer hacking quota has been filled! Here's hoping if they spin out another instalment, the third time will be the charm.
