REVIEW SUMMARY
Pulpy satire done right, They Cloned Tyrone is a wonderful first-feature showcase for director Juel Taylor. A mix of comedy and creepy sci-fi concepts, Taylor delivers a slick viewing experience with plenty to ponder over. I won’t ruin the plot, but let’s just say there’s a lot more narratively at play than originally meets the eye. It’s definitely more Get Out than it is, say, Multiplicity. Elevating things greatly are the talented trio leading the way – John Boyega, Jamie Foxx and Teyonah Parris. The three actors really sink their teeth into their respective roles and seem to be having all manner of fun with the madcap material they’ve been given. And while the movie can get bogged down with some repetitiveness and the occasional predictability, it’s the look of things that make it truly stand out. There overall “graininess” only serves to enhance the muted and mysterious vibe of things. Yes, They Cloned Tyrone is a mystery caper that truly delivers the nefarious goods with style!
