REVIEW SUMMARY
A blistering blockbuster full of wild (and windy) fun, Twisters is totally the Summer spectacle you’ve been waiting for. Paired with a booming Country music soundtrack, the film blows along at an exceptional pace, making every scene more entertaining than the last. And while the story can be awfully silly and far-fetched more times than not (especially come the third act), there’s no denying the exhilarating action extravagance on display. This isn’t a contemplative scientific drama about extreme weather, after all. Not by a long shot. Like its predecessor, it’s simply a rollicking disaster film with lots of infectious charm. Of course, helping things along are the highly likable cast of characters. And from Top Gun: Maverick to Hit Man to now this, it’s official – Glen Powell is no longer “the next big thing,” he is Hollywood’s current “it” actor. What can I say, the man’s a star and he steals the movie from the moment he steps onscreen. For her part, Daisy Edgar-Jones is also capable in the headstrong heroine role, meanwhile Anthony Ramos has no issues injecting his unique brand of charisma to the proceedings. Add in the always reliable Maura Tierney, and the actors shine just as much as the film's titular twisters. And yes, those torrential storms are brought to life with some great CGI work – making the danger eerily palpable. So, by not reinventing the wheel and giving audiences what they came for with a few (ahem) twists, Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters delivers a whirlwind of excitement!
