REVIEW SUMMARY
Lukewarm action and bland adventure rule the day in Ruben Fleischer’s Uncharted. This is a movie that should have worked on all levels. It had the all-star cast, the built-in franchise, the accomplished director… So, what went wrong you ask? In short - the script. What we get is a poor man’s Indiana Jones plot with some of the clunkiest dialogue in recent memory. Yep, it’s a glossy and well produced studio film through and through. That is to say that there is lots of razzle dazzle and not a lot of substance. The actors do their best with what they have to work with mind you. Tom Holland fans should especially be pleased, as the actor’s addictive charisma is once again on full display. Wahlberg is also game, but there is a noticeable lack of energy from the muscle man this time around. Disinterest or age? You decide. Luckily, Holland and Wahlberg’s chemistry is admittedly spot on, making the uninspired events more watchable than they have any right to be. If it wasn’t for them, this would be a rather overlong slog. Instead, it’s a mildly amusing journey with the odd chuckle and thrill thrown in. Could be worse I suppose.
