REVIEW SUMMARY
Could it be? Could one of the best movies of the year star THAT Adam Sandler?! Believe it – Uncut Gems is a superb offering of profanity-laced cinematic chaos. In fact, between this film and 2017’s Good Times, the Sadfrie brothers have now secured their status as masters of anxiety-inducing hyper cinema (and I mean that in the best way possible). Much like its lead character, this is a movie that never stops to take a breathe, hustling about in manic fashion. The camera is constantly moving with unrefined visuals, adding to the exhilaration of it all. And for his part, Sandler makes for the perfect fast talking, speed walking, gambling addicted shady salesman who is living a double life (heck, maybe a “triple life”). Sandler makes every second of his performance count, showing just how drenched in desperation his character is, while also hanging onto threads of hope with gleeful optimism. It’s something to behold, especially if you are used to his recent string of lazy “comedy” outings. So go on, brace your nerves and get ready for a movie rush like none other this year.
